Atlanta Track Club Installs Rekortan Smart Sports Surface Technology

This smart technology provides professional athletes, ambitious runners, and anyone seeking the perfect solution to record and document their running and sprint times.

Using state-of-the-art sensor technology combined with magnetic gates, all key parameters are recorded. This includes distance, running times and splits, as well as measuring the number, length, and frequency of each step taken by an athlete through each gate.

With this system, the athlete wears a high-tech sensor or a smartphone on their belt.

As soon as the athlete starts moving, the sensor/smartphone begins recording data. Whenever the athlete passes through a magnetic gate, the sensor detects the magnet in the surface as a synchronization point.

This allows movement and timing data to be divided into sections between gates and evaluated accordingly.

The sensor can determine the athlete’s position on the surface and can also distinguish between rest periods and changes in direction.

The evaluation results enable more effective training programs. This technology is excellent not only for athletes but also for coaches and strength and conditioning professionals to develop programs and help prevent injuries.

These smart surfaces can be installed on new or existing tracks and can also be used for turf applications.

Rekortan offers a mobile gate option that does not need to be integrated into the surface and can be placed anywhere for performance testing.

With Rekortan Smart mobile timing gates, you can take them wherever you go: the playing field, practice field, gym, or backyard.

The Atlanta Track Club is currently the first to have a Rekortan Smart installation in the United States.

Cheney Stadium was originally a prefabricated rubber track surface that has been upgraded to a Rekortan coating system.

Guy Thomas, Director of Track Operations at AstroTurf & Rekortan, led this installation, which was adapted to the existing track.

With the help of Matt Synder from Nagle Athletic Surfacing, they installed 54 magnetic rods in Cheney Stadium.

The installation process was quite fast and took only one day to complete.

Each completed installation includes in-person instruction on how to use the diagnostic software and sensors.

Trevor Merkosky from Advanced Polymer Technology attended the event along with Johannes Rosenmoeller (CEO) and Stefan Berkow from Humotion GmbH.

During the event, Trevor and Stefan gave a presentation on how to use Smart technology.

During the presentation, they demonstrated how to use the sensor, how to perform tests/run through the magnetic gates, and how to view all the data using the diagnostic software.

The event was highly successful, with coaches and athletes from across the area attending to learn about the technology and ask questions.
